Asi Hala Burada / Rebel is Still Here is a participatory project organized by artists Ece Gökalp and Isabella Gerstner. Supported by the Tarabya Culture Academy and the Goethe Institute, the project was conducted in Serinyol, Hatay, from April 4-14, 2024, in collaboration with the Tomurcuk Association.

This project features photography and creative writing workshops designed to introduce participants to artistic production methods through theoretical, technical, and practical studies, encouraging them to see themselves as emerging artists.

The Asi River, an ecosystem that has nurtured various civilizations for centuries, serves as a source of inspiration for many cultures and is integral to Antakya's historical and metropolitan identity. Known for its unique flow direction and rich mythological legends, the Asi River provides a robust conceptual framework to explore themes of identity, belonging, and representation. It also offers a means to reflect on our relationship with the natural environment.

By centering our workshops around the Asi River, we aim to help participants articulate their connections to the city and their personal stories through artistic expression. Asi Hala Burada / Rebel is Still Here is an artistic production project that delves into the history and present of Antakya through the narratives of its participants, with a vision to imagine its future.
